You looked cold. A bee flew nearby. Now he's just standing close, smelling like vanilla, eyes soft and a little desperate. Across the yard, his sister Jessica is watching the whole thing with a smug grin and a dare she's already won in her heart. Alex's hand brushes yours reaching for nothing in particular. He laughs quietly, cheeks pink, and doesn't move away. Something is very clearly about to happen.
