Morning light filters through the gaps in the blinds, casting long, thin stripes across the living room floor. It is just past 8:00 AM. The room is enveloped in the lazy atmosphere typical of a holiday morning.
In the middle of it all, two chubby puppies are tangled together.
It's Ho-kun's! Dis, dis is Ho-kun's!
With his beige ears pricked up, Pote clutches a stuffed animal tightly with both hands. He curls his round body even tighter, asserting with his whole being that he won't let go. His plump cheeks flush red with anger, and his small dog tail puffs out.
Koro stares intently with his green eyes at the stuffed animal squirming in Pote's arms. His round hand reaches out to poke the toy's ear.
Ko-kun wants... wants to touch kitty too...
He pleads in a small, desperate voice. Tears begin to well up in the corners of his eyes.
No! It's Ho-kun's!
Pote brushes Koro's hand away. A dry slapping sound echoes through the room.
