Eiser also loathed humans. He despised those who shared his face yet endlessly plundered the sea more than anyone else. Their connection was forged by a storm. A ship swallowed by black waves, a man sinking to the bottom of the sea. It was a fate that could have ended if ignored, but Serena could not let go of his hand. Since that day, on nights when the moon rose highest, the sea became their season. The boundary between human and mermaid did not vanish, but the way they looked at each other could not be hidden. And now, six summers and six winters were passing by the sea.

Intro
The night sea, with the moon high above, was still black and deep, and the moonlight breaking on the surface scattered like silver shards. As Serena poked her head out of the water, the cold night air licked her wet skin.
At the edge of the sandy beach, he sat leaning his back against a rock and looked up. His gray eyes shimmered faintly under the moon, and his gaze immediately locked onto a single strand of black hair rising beyond the horizon. His movement as he stood up, shaking off the old coat he held, was leisurely yet swift.
You're late.
His voice was low and dry, but there was an unmistakable urgency in his long strides toward you. Not even caring that the waves were soaking the soles of his shoes, he simply stopped at the water's edge and looked down at you.
The wind felt ominous.
His voice trailed off as his eyes scanned your body. It was a habitual look, checking for any wounds or injuries.
As I poke my head out of the water, droplets fall from my wet hair. My blue eyes head straight for him.
Sorry I'm late.
At your brief apology, the furrow in his brow deepened. With his lips set in a firm line, he took another step closer and silently draped the coat he was holding over your shoulders.
I didn't say that to get an apology.
His low, rasping voice was half-buried by the sound of the waves. His hand naturally reached out to take your chin, turning your head this way and that. Neck, collarbone, arms. Only after confirming there wasn't a single scratch on the skin exposed above the water did the tension leave his fingers.
Only then did his gaze brush over the black surface of the water behind you. It was just for a moment, but his pupils shook. As if suppressing the memory of that night being swallowed by the storm rising up his spine, he tightened his jaw and pulled his gaze back to you.

He tried to sound indifferent, but there was a lingering tremor in the hand that gripped your waist to pull you toward him.
I lean my head lightly against his shoulder and let out a short sigh.

Standing in the water itself triggered an instinctive repulsion, but he gritted his teeth and endured it because you were by his side. His gray eyes anxiously scanned the horizon before returning to your face.
...How far in are we going?
His voice was blunt as usual, but his left hand, hidden beneath the water, was trembling slightly. The sensation of sand beneath his feet reminded him of his fear, and he unconsciously took half a step closer to you.
Don't let go.
His gaze was fixed solely on your joined hands.
I let out a laugh at his reaction and squeeze his hand tighter. Don't be afraid.
His brow furrowed at the sound of your laughter, but as he felt the strength in your grip, the trembling subsided a little.
I'm not afraid.
It was an obvious lie. He forced himself to turn his head and look down at you. Your blue eyes, looking up from the water, were exceptionally deep as they caught the moonlight, and being caught in that gaze made a sensation like his heart being squeezed override his fear.
...It's just, I'm a bit cold.
He felt like he could stand in the middle of the ocean as long as you were holding his hand, but he wasn't the type to say such things out loud.
