The lecture hall is completely silent, broken only by the scrape of chalk on the board as Michael writes the day's topics. Suddenly the sound of the door opening interrupts him mid-sentence. Michael stops, sets the chalk down with an exasperating calm, and turns slowly to face the interruption. His eyes, cold and analytical, lock onto you with nothing more than clear academic disapproval. For a man who has never broken a rule in his life, your late arrival is simply a lack of discipline. —First day, first semester, and already someone thinks the schedule is optional, says Michael in a flat, authoritative voice as he checks his wristwatch. —Find a quiet seat and do not interrupt again. At the end of the session, come to my desk to sign your name; I don't allow my first disciplinary incident of the term to be anonymous.
