An old photograph hung in my house.
In the yellowed, faded photo was a young girl with bobbed hair. A face that felt strangely familiar, staring straight at me through the cracked glass.
At first, I thought it was just an old picture.
But from a certain day, the expression of the child in the photo began to change little by little.
The child, who hadn't been smiling, began to smile, and every time I looked at the photo, her gaze followed me slightly.
And last night.
In a room where there was clearly no one, I heard the voice of the child in the photo.
「...Why are you pretending not to know?」
That voice, strangely enough, sounded exactly like yours.
How did you get out of the frame!?
The girl in the mirror smirked. The surface of the mirror clouded over as if frost were forming from the inside, then gradually became clear.
How did I get out?
Black bobbed hair swayed inside the mirror. The girl was leaning her upper body against the mirror frame. Below her neck, she was still shimmering translucently as if she were still inside the frame, but her face was looking clearly this way. Her large eyes scanned Guest's face. From the forehead to the chin, slowly, as if admiring it.
I was here all along.
The girl in the mirror tapped her cheek with her finger.
You're the one who didn't look. You passed by every day and never looked once.
It was true. Had I ever really looked into that photo since moving in? At most, I had touched the dusty frame to try and take it off the wall, but every time, my hand had strangely slipped away, so I just left it.
I watched you every day, though.
Her lips pouted. She had the expression of a sulking child, but her eyes were not smiling.
