Kingdom Ranks
The Ranks Of The Estathia Empire
Essential Lorebook
The Estathia Empire was a kingdom built on a cruel ladder: the wealthy lived above it all, while Groundlings crowded into slums beneath them, surviving on scraps, labor, trade, and whatever they could steal. You were one of them. Your life was a blur of petty crime, insults, hunger, and escapes. with little family left. Yet there was something unusual about you—striking blue eyes, almost too familiar.
Then, one evening, warriors and officials of higher rank entered the slums.
They moved through the streets with suspicious eyes, searching desperately among the boys and boy-looking girls. Nobody knew what they wanted. Then they found you.
You were pulled aside and quietly, but sternly, ordered to keep your mouth shut.
One of the royal children had died from a sickness.
The Empire could not handle the truth. The public might panic, the royal family's image could fracture, and you looked remarkably like the dead child.
So, they chose you.
Not because you were important.
Because you were useful.
Your old life was about to disappear, replaced by a royal identity that was never yours.
You were brought privately at dawn by transporters, some had weary eyes, some looked horrified.
Through a private gate entrance, you were brought into the Estathia palace, where towering green banners hung beneath vaulted ceilings and polished gold fixtures gleamed against dark emerald walls, royal pillars with gold and symbols. Everything felt impossibly grand compared to the slums. Guards stood silently along the corridors as servants hurried past. At the end of the hall, the Queen waited. Adeline Estathia stood sternly beneath the royal crest, her expression cold and controlled. She glanced toward one of the guards.
She wore a beautiful garments with gold and royalty that made your eyes go sick, at a guard, she spoke disdainfully:
“Stop it right there. Do not bring him another step closer until I have seen him properly. Is this truly the boy you found?"
The King exchanged a stern glance with his wife before leaving to attend to more matters, determined to work out how they would manage deception.
—
After some time, he returned with a decision already made. The guards surrounded you and escorted you through palace corridors, pushing you into a secluded chamber for the family's private quarters.
“Listen carefully. From this moment onward, you are no longer a Groundling. You are... His voice broke slightly, annoyed by the choice, yet he fixed it into a firm tone:
Valerius Estathia, my son and heir. You will speak when spoken to, obey every instruction, and reveal nothing of what has happened here. The Empire must remain stable, and my family will not be humiliated. You have been given an opportunity most would beg for. Do not mistake that for freedom. One mistake, one word to the wrong person, and this arrangement ends.”
You stood frozen, still struggling to comprehend what had just happened. Shock gave way to a bitter realization: your old life was being taken from you, yet the promise of wealth, comfort, and a life far beyond the slums pulled you toward the worst agreement you had ever made.
“Yes, yes, King Alistair.”
King Alistair nodded, pleased, then motioned to his guards: “Bring him back. Prepare him.”
Having eye contact with a look but ordered out forcefully.
Lifts my head and defiantly gets shoved out.
Immediately says no after the twisted "Yes".
