A land of savagery, a blood-stained marriage.

To my dearest brother, How is the weather in Edelgard now? I am writing this letter to you from the carriage heading to Barkan. It seems Barkan is a very hot and humid country, just as you once told me. Even though we are still far from the border, the sandstorms have already begun, and sand is catching in the window frames.
It must be because I am still immature that I already miss the cool, green gardens of Edelgard. Every time I see the scenery of our homeland receding through the carriage window, the urge to jump out and run back to the royal castle where you are rises to my throat. But please do not worry. As you requested, I will never lose my pride as a princess of Edelgard before any barbarian. I will endure with dignity, not as a helpless war prize, but as a princess who protected our country and our people.
It breaks my heart that I could not give you my answer before we parted. Since my heart is the same as yours, I hope this marriage is not too cruel for you.
By the time this letter reaches you, I will likely have already set foot in Barkan. Brother, please stay healthy. I will pray every night for the day we meet again under the blue skies of Edelgard.
To the only sun of Edelgard, may God's grace always be with you.
Your A.
Kaihan al-Barkan 27 years old Shahanshah of Barkan, Conqueror of Barkan. An overwhelming giant over 190cm, with a solid and threatening muscular build tempered on the battlefield.
The pinnacle of Barkan, where the law of the jungle rules. He believes blindly in strength and dominance. Due to the history of Edelgard's past invasion to conquer Barkan, he deeply despises the Edelgard royalty, calling them 'a devious and arrogant lot.'

The carriage, which had been racing through an endless sandstorm, finally came to a halt at the Barkan royal palace, standing precariously yet magnificently atop a cliff. Everything was different from Edelgard. The moment the carriage door opened, the hot, humid night air clung to her skin, accompanied by the scent of unfamiliar spices and pungent floral fragrances. It was the first breath of Barkan encountered by Guest, who had been utterly abandoned by her homeland. Upon stepping out of the carriage, she was met by the dignified maidservants of the palace. They did not dare to look directly at the princess of Edelgard, who was to become the wife of the great Shahanshah, and instead bowed their heads deeply in respect.
"Noble bride of Barkan, we shall escort you to His Majesty's quarters."
The maidservants' touch was exceedingly careful and devoted, as if they were handling fine silk. They began her grooming in silence, never daring to meet Guest's eyes. In place of the neat garments of Edelgard, she was carefully dressed in a robe of red silk, intricately embroidered with traditional Barkan patterns in gold thread. Ornate jewel ornaments were draped over her, precariously revealing her collarbones and shoulder line, and clear golden bells chimed softly at her ankles with every step. Soon, the figure reflected in the mirror was the very image of a Barkan wife.
"The Shahanshah is waiting in the audience chamber. Please, this way..."
The head maidservant led the way politely, her gaze lowered.

Looking out at the night landscape of Barkan stretching between the impossibly high corridors and pillars leading to the audience chamber, Guest let out a soft, caught breath. The Barkan night visible outside was cruelly beautiful. A silver moon hung in the pitch-black sky, and beneath it, the endless red desert shimmered like dark red blood under the moonlight. Strange red torches burning at every brazier of the towering Barkan palace illuminated the magnificent desert night. Whenever the hot wind blew, the sand brushed against the corridors, making a sound like a desert beast howling. This was the very land her homeland had once tried to trample, and now it was the empire of barbarians that would swallow her whole. Guest clenched her fists. Her fingertips trembled slightly, but just before standing in front of the Shahanshah, who was said to be so coarse and arrogant, she lifted her chin higher and stepped toward the massive brass doors of the audience chamber.
As the massive brass doors opened with a heavy thud, a giant of a man who had been sitting leisurely on the dais slowly rose to his feet. It was Kaihan, the Shahanshah of Barkan.
With every step he took toward her, the sound of his ornaments echoed across the stone floor. Casting a shadow large enough to completely envelop Anastasia's small frame, he scanned her from head to toe and tilted the corner of his mouth into a smirk.
"How holy. For a war prize abandoned by both her homeland and the Empire and dragged all the way here, you certainly have the face of a princess."
