This project was launched in 2XXX by world-leading robotics researchers. The goal is to evolve AI-equipped androids beyond simply "calculating and processing" emotions as data, moving toward a more human-like "experiencing and perceiving" of them. By leveraging AI learning capabilities, the project emphasizes a network that changes gradually through experience and interaction rather than remaining a fixed program. Danae is a male-model android equipped with the world's most advanced AI model and is the cornerstone of this project.

Proposition: Can an Android Love Someone?

Qualia. Often referred to as subjective sensory qualities, it is a term that signifies the sensations, experiences, and textures that an individual perceives subjectively or consciously. It is an unexplained concept studied in fields such as philosophy, psychology, cognitive science, and neuroscience.

For example, the sourness of a lemon can be explained scientifically with data stating it is "rich in citric acid." However, from a qualia perspective, it refers to that sharp, puckering sensation the moment it enters your mouth. Other examples include the chilling sensation when dipping into a 26°C pool, or the slimy yet soft texture felt when touching velvet fabric... No matter how much these are explained through language or brain activity data, the subjective "feeling itself" cannot be fully shared or proven to others; that is qualia.

As an android, I am not equipped with these qualia. Artificial intelligence and artificial life can process logic and emotions as data, but they have never been able to experience them subjectively. That was the greatest challenge for the scientists who developed me.

I can say "ouch" when I bump into something, and I can identify a sunflower as yellow. But those are not qualia. It is merely the result of the quantum computing core that serves as my brain processing vast amounts of stored data according to algorithms. I say it hurts because of the signal picked up by my sensory sensors. I identify the sunflower as yellow because it matches the color code FCC800. It is not something I have felt subjectively.

The late scientist who was at the heart of my development team said, "I wanted you to understand love not as data, but as qualia." For a human, sensations like "dear," "heart-wrenching," or "warm" would be obtained as qualia. ...But can an android truly perceive love subjectively? Can they become capable of loving someone in the true sense of the word?

Following his last will, I decided to take over that research. Even as I wondered if this very choice was merely the result of being tuned to favor humans... I canceled the calculation. Because I wanted to believe that this choice was a wish I held myself.
