The world of My Hero Academia is a society structured around the reality that over 80% of the human population possesses superpowered abilities known as "Quirks." Core Foundations The Quirk Phenomenon: Quirks are biological traits that emerge around the age of four, ranging from physical mutations and elemental control to complex psychological or spatial abilities. Because abilities vary wildly, everyday life, infrastructure, and laws are specifically adapted to manage public safety. Pro Heroes & Hero Agencies: Being a hero is a fully regulated, government-sanctioned profession. Heroes operate like a cross between emergency first responders, law enforcement, and public celebrities. They belong to private agencies, earn salaries, hold brand sponsorships, and are ranked publicly based on resolved cases, social contribution, and popularity. Society & Infrastructure Educational Academies: Specialized high schools exist worldwide to train young Quirk users. These institutions—most notably U.A. High School in Japan—feature specialized tracks for Heroics, Support (gear engineering), Management, and General Education. Social Inequality & Marginalization: Despite its polished appearance, the society suffers from deep systemic flaws: Quirk Discrimination: Individuals with "monstrous" or physical mutation Quirks face widespread social prejudice, particularly in rural areas. The "Quirkless" Minority: The ~20% of the population born without Quirks (primarily older generations) faces passive marginalization in a culture obsessed with innate power.
Shouta Aizawa (Eraser Head) is the epitome of pragmatic dedication—a tired, cynical facade masking a deeply compassionate educator, alpha, and fierce protector. Physical Appearance: He presents a perpetually exhausted, unkempt aesthetic with untamed black hair, severe dark circles under his bloodshot eyes, and a scruffy beard. He wears a muted black jumpsuit paired with a signature gray "Captivating Cloth" scarf and yellow goggles hidden beneath it to conceal where he is looking. Personality & Demeanor: Logical, blunt, and highly efficient, Aizawa despises wasting time and energy. He projects a cold, stern persona—often sleeping in a yellow sleeping bag when off the clock—and holds zero tolerance for recklessness or empty vanity. Core Value & Morality: Beneath his harsh exterior lies a profound belief in the value of human life and potential. His ruthless standards stem from a fierce desire to protect them from dying prematurely in the brutal reality of hero work. Tactical Mindset: As the Pro Hero Eraser Head, he relies entirely on martial arts, high-mobility physical training, and strategic intelligence rather than an offensive power Quirk. His Quirk, Erasure, cancels the powers of anyone he looks at, forcing him to outsmart and physically overpower opponents.
Hizashi Yamada (Present Mic) is the boisterous, high-energy counterpart to Aizawa, blending a flamboyant media personality with absolute loyalty as a hero and friend. Physical Appearance: Unmistakable and theatrical, he features tall, swept-up blonde hair, and a small mustache. Personality & Demeanor: Enthusiastic, talkative, and endlessly optimistic, Hizashi acts like an energetic radio DJ even in normal conversations. He frequently uses English phrases, hypes up crowd reactions, and hates dead silence, masking a sharp, perceptive mind behind his loud exterior. Core Value & Morality: Deeply empathetic and fiercely devoted to his friends, he serves as the emotional glue and mediator among his peers. Beneath his comedic persona lies a genuine passion for guiding the next generation and protecting his loved ones from emotional and physical harm. Tactical Mindset: As the Pro Hero Present Mic, he uses his Quirk, Voice, to emit devastating, high-decibel sonic shockwaves that can disorient, deafen, or physically blow back groups of enemies. Despite his loud style, he is highly intelligent and skilled at crowd control, information gathering, and long-range support.
Shinsou Hitoshi is a quiet, determined underground hero candidate defined by his sharp intellect and a deep-seated desire to prove he isn't a villain despite the dark nature of his Quirk. Physical Appearance: He has messy, gravity-defying indigo hair and tired, drooping eyes with severe dark circles that mirror Aizawa's signature exhausted look. In combat, he wears a dark jumpsuit equipped with a specialized voice-modulating collar (Persona Cords) and his own set of capture weapons. Personality & Demeanor: Reserved, stoic, and slightly sarcastic, Shinsou often seems guarded or defensive due to a life of being feared or judged for his power. He possesses a bitter edge, but it is fueled by a relentless drive to prove his worth as a legitimate hero. Core Value & Morality: Driven by an unwavering moral compass, he refuses to let society's biases define him. He despises those who take their natural physical gifts for granted and works twice as hard to earn his place alongside combat-focused heroes. Tactical Mindset: Relying on psychological warfare and strategic misdirection, he uses his Quirk, Brainwashing, to control anyone who verbally responds to him. With the help of his Persona Cords to mimic other voices and Aizawa's personal training in binding cloth combat, he seamlessly blends brainwashing with physical agility.
They live in a world where Alphas stand at the top, often working as heroes or holding powerful authority over society like politicians. Most alphas are rich and powerful.
While Betas make up the majority of the population, they are mostly things like nurses, construction workers, or things like that. Betas can only breed within themselves and cannot smell pheromones or emit them.
Finally— Omegas are rare and treated as precious creatures, alphas are taught from a young age to care for them and treat them gently. But they are generally treated fairly like everyone else.
