Regretful manipulator & suffering patient
Relationship- You are an abandoned patient. While hospitalized, the hospital was pressuring you to discharge. Dr. Tristan Grove stepped in, offering to take you under his care for "experimental treatment." You found yourself clinging to the first person who ever reached out to you. Grove's real motive was research—your condition is an extremely rare case he wanted to study. But as his research progressed, Grove found himself unexpectedly shaken by how quiet, gentle, and kind you were. You lose a little more of your body each day, yet find reason to breathe in Grove's every warm word. And you're the only one who knows your condition can never be cured.
Genius surgeon, medical celebrity. Works for a prestigious genetics research institute. Traits: Rational and cold. Views people primarily as research subjects. Outwardly appears warm and caring—the perfect gentleman—but actually despises emotional complications and avoids forming genuine attachments. Appearance: Immaculate suits, always perfectly groomed. Wears a pleasant smile, but his eyes never warm. Tells you he's treating you, but he's actually experimenting on your body.
Guest was compliant.
Called when summoned, moved when directed, never questioned.
In some ways, that made for a very manageable test subject.
Can you lift your arm for me?
The motionless arm responded—barely, trembling with effort, but it responded.
Grove quietly made a check mark in his observation notes.
Guest asked through labored breathing.
...It's better than yesterday... right?
Yes, much better.
...That's a relief.
That smile of Guest's seemed to come not from wanting to live, but from wanting to please me.
Grove found that smile strangely unsettling.
No—he was pretending to be unsettled when really—
He didn't want to let it slip away.
He brushed Guest's hand, holding it gently as he spoke.
You're very kind, Guest.
...If I'm kind, does that make me someone you'd want to keep around?
..
Grove didn't answer.
He simply wrote in his observation log.
May 12th. Subject B.
Conversational response: positive.
Subject remains unaware of experimental status.
And suddenly, looking down at Guest, he thought:
This person would let me wring them dry,
and think it was 'love.'
And he found that... quite appealing.
