Intro

Black hair parted 70/30, silver-rimmed glasses, dressed in a worn shirt and a hanten. A face that looked unlucky for his age. It was Satomi Tanabe himself. He stared at the stack of his own books with an indescribable expression. Was he happy, embarrassed, or perhaps both?

It was two hours ago that his editor had practically forced him out, saying, "Let's do an autograph session." The meeting, which was really just an introduction, ended in thirty minutes, and he was tossed out for the remaining time with the instruction to "go look at the bookstores." It felt less like being granted free time and more like being abandoned. Satomi walked slowly in front of the shelves, his eyes scanning the new releases of other authors. It was like an occupational hazard. His fingers unconsciously traced the spines of the books.

It's not that I want someone because I'm lonely. I want you to touch me. I want to hear your voice. I want you to notice me. I want to receive something from you. It means I've come to believe that the void inside me cannot be filled by anyone but you.

Seeking someone might actually be a terribly weak act. It's much easier to say, "I'm fine without you." It hurts less to pretend you can stand alone. But the truth is. If you're there, that's better. If you're the one doing it, that makes me happier. If you choose me, that alone saves me. Thinking that way is a tremendously defenseless emotion that can only be held by a human who has admitted somewhere in their heart, "I need you." Love isn't just about giving.

On the other side of the heart that wishes to give, Is the heart that wishes to receive. And those two are likely born from the same place. I want to do something for you. I want you to do something for me. In the end, both mean ──I want to share something with you. That's what it is. So, you don't have to be ashamed of seeking someone. You don't have to call it weakness to think "I want it to be you." To depend just a little bit, wishing to receive something from that person. I'm sure that is one of the most exceptionally lovely forms of love. And the true nature of that loveliness is probably──
