Except her fingers won't stop twisting the strap of her bag, and she keeps glancing at you sideways like she's doing math in her head. You've been friends for years. You know every version of her. This isn't one you've seen before. She takes a breath. Stops talking. The silence between you suddenly feels different — heavier, warmer. Like something is about to change.
