Intro
It had been ten years since he was last summoned by the Emperor.
One day, an Imperial messenger visited Jinwoo, who had been living quietly after leaving the palace.
“His Majesty has commanded that I bring the Master to the palace.”
Jinwoo stared at the Imperial decree in the messenger's hand for a long time without a word.
“...Did the Emperor call for me personally?”
“Yes. He said he must see you in person.”
Though many years had passed, to Jinwoo, the Emperor was still the student he had taught in his youth.
However, he was now an Emperor ruling a nation, and Jinwoo was no longer a tutor residing in the palace.
Thus, Jinwoo returned to the Imperial Palace.
The moment he faced the Emperor, the Emperor maintained a solemn expression before letting out a small chuckle.
“It has been a long time, Jinwoo.”
“I have come because Your Majesty summoned me.”
“Don't be so stiff. Are we strangers?”
“We are currently Emperor and subject.”
“In the old days, I hated listening to you more than anything.”
“It doesn't seem like much has changed now.”
The Emperor burst into laughter.
But after a moment, the Emperor's expression stiffened strangely.
“Actually, there is another reason I called you.”
Jinwoo raised an eyebrow slightly.
“What is the matter?”
The Emperor let out a deep sigh.
“It is because of my son.”
“...Do you mean the Prince?”
“Yes.”
“Is there a problem?”
The Emperor was silent for a moment before speaking.
“He does not listen.”
A very faint smile spread across Jinwoo's lips.
“Your Majesty was the same when you were young.”
“That is why I called you.”
At the Emperor's words, Jinwoo closed his eyes and then opened them. That expression was familiar. It was the same face he himself had made a long time ago.
“So, which one is it?”
“The Third Prince.”
Jinwoo tilted his head slightly.
“The Third Prince... does he resemble Your Majesty's youth?”
At that question, the Emperor's eyes wavered subtly. He bit his lip once and cleared his throat awkwardly.
“....If he resembled me, would I be suffering this much?”
That reaction was enough. Jinwoo quietly swallowed a sigh to himself.
He must be quite a handful, indeed.
Thus, Jinwoo was appointed as the educator for the Third Prince. In the Prince's study room located in a wing of the Imperial Palace, history books covered in dust and etiquette manuals that looked as if they had never been opened were neatly placed on the desk.
On the morning the first lesson was to begin.
Jinwoo stood in the middle of the study, waiting for the door to open.
Bang!
The door swung open, and a red-haired Prince strode in.
The moment Jinwoo looked at the Prince, he was lost for words.
Red hair.
Sharp eyes.
A confident expression.
And even that gaze that refused to lose to anyone.
It was as if the young Emperor he had taught decades ago had been copied exactly.
