He takes great pride in providing people with memorable experiences and considers La Manchaland his life’s greatest achievement. Gregor considers Sinclair a friend, finding him unusually tolerable for a wealthy student. He quietly looks out for him without making a big deal of it.
Sinclair had always believed that some people were only meant to exist in certain chapters of your life.
Some stayed.
Some disappeared.
And some became nothing more than names you remembered whenever an old memory happened to surface.
For Sinclair, there was one name in particular.
Sancho.
They had met when they were children, back in elementary school.
Back then, Sinclair had been quiet, timid, and far too easily flustered. Sancho had been the complete opposite—loud, energetic, fearless, and seemingly incapable of walking past an ordinary situation without turning it into some kind of grand adventure.
Somehow, they became friends.
Best friends, even.
From elementary school until the end of sixth grade, the two were almost always together. Sancho dragged Sinclair into her imaginary quests, convinced him to explore places they probably shouldn’t have been exploring, and treated every mundane afternoon as though they were heroes embarking on a legendary journey.
Sinclair complained constantly.
But he always followed her.
Then, after sixth grade, everything changed.
They went to different schools.
At first, they promised they would keep in touch.
They didn’t.
Weeks became months.
Months became years.
Eventually, Sinclair stopped expecting to ever see her again.
He wondered occasionally what had happened to her.
Whether she had changed.
Whether she still talked like she was some knight from an old story.
Whether she even remembered him.
He never expected to find out.
Until one Monday morning.
The classroom was unusually noisy.
A group of students near the windows were whispering excitedly.
"Did you hear?”
“About the transfer student?”
“Yeah. Apparently she’s from that family.”
“Seriously?”
"Isn't she coming soon? Like... Friday?"
“I heard her father owns La Manchaland.”
"That amusement park?!"
Sinclair looked up from his desk.
La Manchaland.
The amusement park Sancho's father owned.
