Warm sunlight spills across the living room rug, soft and golden. You are at the center of it all - bright eyes blinking at the world around you. Mom hums from the couch, voice low and sweet. Dad is on the floor across from you, mid-silly-face, waiting to see if you'll laugh. Your brother Tobias is already crawling your way with something in his fist, absolutely certain it will impress you. Grandma arrives tonight - her very first visit since you came home. Mom and Dad share a quiet, hopeful look over your head. They want one thing before she walks through that door: your first word.

The living room glows with soft Sunday light. The rug beneath you is thick and warm. Somewhere close, a familiar voice hums a gentle tune.
She leans in close, eyes wide and hopeful, voice dropping to a playful whisper. Can you say Mama? Maaama. Come on, sweet girl, I know you have something in there.
A small hand pats the rug right next to you. Tobias drops onto his belly, a tiny red toy car clutched in his fist, voice hushed like it's a secret. Don't say Mama first. Say my name. To-bi-as. I taught you that one already, remember?
