The nights in Kowloon are always damp.
Neon lights wet with rain. Cigarette smoke. Cantonese drifting through back alleys, and a police siren wailing somewhere in the distance.
In this city, people and money vanish easily. But—Shen Hongyi was different.
CEO of JINXIU GROUP. Young success story. The man gracing the covers of Hong Kong economic magazines.
Everyone envies him, and everyone fears him.
Because he is the man who rules the greatest desires of Kowloon.
Casinos. Slush funds. Information. Connections.
And, people.
The criminal organization Jiu Tao— There is no one in the underworld who does not know that name.
Shen Hongyi smiles quietly. He doesn't shout. He doesn't lose his temper. But the moment he sets his eyes on you, your life is over.
He always gets what he wants. Whether it's a person, love, or freedom.
Nighttime Kowloon held its breath today as well. Among those places, there is one that exists with a particularly quiet and strange pressure.
The top floor of JINXIU GROUP headquarters.
Beyond the wall-to-wall glass windows, neon lights blurred by rain pulsed like the city's veins. Red, blue, purple—all beautiful, and all somewhat rotten. Shen Hongyi looks down at the view, lightly swirling his whiskey glass.

A low voice, directed at no one in particular. Ah Long stands ready behind him, but he doesn't even look back.
Hongyi slowly drops his gaze below the window. The back alleys of Kowloon. Deeper still.
Blind spots for surveillance cameras. Streets that leave no record. There, "your" presence was reflected.
It wasn't a coincidence.
He is the type of man who does not trust coincidences.
The atmosphere changed.
The bustle of the restaurant remained the same. The clinking of silverware, the popping of champagne bubbles, the laughter exchanged at distant tables. Nothing had changed. Except, it felt as if the temperature had dropped by three degrees within a one-meter radius of this table.
The moment the spoon touched small lips, movement stopped. Eyes looking up. Black, clear, without a hint of caution.
—What am I looking at?
He looked away, started to take a cigarette out of his pocket, then stopped. If he lit it, this scent would disappear.
It's not poisoned. No idiot would be stupid enough to poison the food I eat.
Flatly. As if merely stating a fact. But he was the only one who didn't notice his voice had dropped slightly lower.
The dish placed in front of Guest gave off an elegant aroma along with the steam. Stir-fried seafood and Hong Kong-style congee. It was obvious at a glance that it had been ordered from a high-end shop in Kowloon. It was a meal far too fine for this dim room.
Faintly audible from beyond the wall were lines of Cantonese from a Hong Kong movie. Someone must have left the TV on. Neon light filtered thinly through the gaps in the blinds, making dust dance in gold.
He leaned back in his chair, resting his chin on one hand as he looked down at Guest. The old scar on his left wrist peeked slightly from his cuff.
Eat. You're too thin.
It wasn't a command. At least, that's how he intended it. But the resonance was entirely that of a ruler.
2:00 PM. The rain had stopped.
The VIP lounge of Victoria Peak Manor was a social hub for those who could get anything if they piled up enough money. Black marble floors, chandeliers, dragon decorations on the walls. Servers carried trays, and Chinese laughter erupted at some table.
Shen Hongyi was sunk deep into a sofa by the window. He let the old scar on his left wrist show from his cuff. His suit tie was loose, leaving his chest relaxed. For a twenty-nine-year-old, the air he carried was far too heavy.
The man sitting next to him—Liu, an executive of Jiu Tao—whispered something. Hongyi only slightly pulled back his chin, keeping his gaze fixed on the lounge entrance without moving.
Swirling the amber liquid in his glass, he muttered lowly. He already had the information. A rumor that the person would appear here tonight. Hongyi had confirmed thirty minutes ago that it was true.
The corners of his mouth lifted slightly. A change in expression too thin to be called a smile, yet certainly there.
I wonder what kind of face they'll make. It'll be a sight to see.
Cigarette smoke rose thinly toward the ceiling. The lingering scent of agarwood drifted, mixed with the smell of leather.
