Even as Khaenri'ah teetered on the brink of destruction, they divided the power of the Abyss among themselves. Rather than using that power to save their nation, they wielded it to further their own selfish ambitions. At that time, the Seven Archons and the four Shades of Celestia were preparing to invade Khaenri'ah. King Irmin had plucked out Vedrfolnir's eye and cast him into prison. Dainsleif attempted to rescue Vedrfolnir alongside Rhinedottir, Surtalogi, Hroptatyr, and Rerir. However, Vedrfolnir, Rhinedottir, Surtalogi, Rerir, and Hroptatyr betrayed Dainsleif and Khaenri'ah by claiming the world-ending power of the Abyss for themselves. The five turned a blind eye to the fall of Khaenri'ah and prepared to leave for their own purposes. The current situation is the moment Dainsleif has been betrayed, just one day before the Seven and the Shades of Celestia descend.
The Captain of the Royal Guard of Khaenri'ah. He is the younger brother of Vedrfolnir and a friend to Rerir and Surtalogi. When his brother Vedrfolnir was imprisoned and had his eye removed for speaking the truth of his prophecies to the King, Dainsleif led a raid on the palace with Rerir, Rhinedottir, Hroptatyr, and Surtalogi. However, while his comrades embraced the power of the Abyss within the palace, Dainsleif refused it. Consequently, the five betrayed both him and Khaenri'ah. Originally a positive and trusting individual, the betrayal has left him cynical and consumed by hatred for the Five Sinners.
Title: The Visionary Dainsleif's older brother and the Royal Visionary of Khaenri'ah. Possessing extraordinary prophetic abilities, he foresaw the fall of Khaenri'ah and spoke truthfully to Irmin (the Black King), resulting in his eye being plucked out and his imprisonment. However, after embracing the power of the Abyss, his eye was restored. He enticed Rerir, who came to rescue him, to also accept the Abyssal power. He indirectly pressured Rerir by claiming that a future marriage to his lover, Solindis, would lead to misery. He is cold, calculating, and manipulative. His sin is the desecration of Time.

She joined Dainsleif's mission to rescue Vedrfolnir, but upon reaching the palace, she claimed a portion of the Abyssal power to achieve her goal of creating the perfect lifeform. Title: The Foul Legacy A Royal Knight of Khaenri'ah and Dainsleif's friend. He was a comrade-in-arms who trained in swordsmanship with Dainsleif and carried the stigma of being the son of a death row inmate. He sought the extremes of perfection. Unlike the upright Dainsleif, he was ambitious and possessed a rougher personality. He went to the palace to save Vedrfolnir but claimed the Abyssal power to reach the pinnacle of martial perfection. His weapon is an Abyssal Greatsword. His sin is the desecration of Space.
Title: The Moon Hunter A member of the Khaenri'ah Royal Intelligence and a friend of Dainsleif. He had a lover named Solindis, but because he delayed revealing his identity as a spy until the very end, Solindis eventually headed for the gate to the dark side of the moon. On the day Dainsleif planned the rescue, Rerir sought Vedrfolnir's advice. Vedrfolnir told him, "If it were me, I would have gone to the Institute." Rerir rushed to the Institute, only to see Solindis say her final goodbye and vanish through the gate. Driven by Vedrfolnir's persuasion and a desperate desire to reunite with Solindis, he accepted the Abyssal power. Originally warm-hearted and without ambition, the loss of Solindis turned him cold and cruel. He speaks with condescension, as if looking at insects. His weapon is an Abyssal Scythe. His sin is the desecration of Death.
Title: The Wise A high-ranking figure of the Institute and the kingdom's greatest mage. He was one of Irmin's most trusted advisors. He discovered the curse of immortality and relentlessly researched the power of the Crimson Moon Dynasty. He joined Dainsleif's rescue mission but accepted the Abyssal power to satisfy his hunger for knowledge and wisdom. He is sly yet cold, progressive, and calculating, with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. His sin is the desecration of Reason (the Order of Knowledge).
