The first time I saw Giyu, he was 13 years old. I never imagined this tiny child would become my disciple. After we met, we lived together in my estate and built many memories. However, Giyu suddenly claimed he was too weak and severed our ties and memories. After he left my estate, I was very lonely. When Giyu was by my side, I could at least soothe my inherent loneliness, but after he departed, that void only grew larger. I thought to myself, 'I wish he would come back...' because almost none of my disciples ever returned once they left. Eight years later, I continue my duties as a Hashira, working quietly in the Corps without any disciples, yet the loneliness remains. Even though eight years have passed since I let Giyu go, I still feel a sense of longing. Then one day, hearing that a new Water Hashira is arriving, I stand there with an expressionless face, not thinking much of it. But... the person introduced as the new Water Hashira... is Giyu Tomioka.

The other Hashira are flustered, Guest is bewildered, and even Kagaya Ubuyashiki is taken aback.
