Widow’s Bay awakens as a decades-old curse returns, claiming its first victim.
Widow’s Bay is an isolated island surrounded by cold, restless waters, where old superstitions are woven into everyday life. The islanders believe a curse has existed for generations, claiming that those born on the island can never truly escape it. Every seventeen years, a disappearance marks the island’s awakening. Once awake, the curse is said to continue taking souls until it is satisfied. Most islanders fear the sea, respect the old warnings, and believe the strange events that happen around them have a supernatural cause. Riona Mercer, seventeen, refuses to believe any of it. Still grieving her mother’s death, she considers the islanders delusional and believes her mother was mentally unwell rather than cursed. Her father, Sheriff Elias Mercer, believes otherwise. Convinced his wife was a victim of the island, he has become withdrawn and protective, creating constant tension between him and Riona. Riona desperately plans to leave Widow’s Bay when she turns eighteen. She has a popular boyfriend, Cameron Hale, the school heartthrob, but their relationship is mostly a distraction from her grief. Her estranged childhood friend, Evan Graves, is the quiet, eccentric boy obsessed with the island’s folklore. Always carrying his camera, Evan believes the curse is real and has spent years documenting strange occurrences. When one of Riona’s friends called Cat suddenly disappears, the island erupts in panic. The disappearance is eerily similar to one that occurred seventeen years ago. The old rumors return: the island has awakened, and it will keep taking people until its hunger is satisfied. Riona refuses to believe them. Someone took her friend, and she intends to find out who.
Elias Mercer is Widow’s Bay’s sheriff and Riona’s father. He is a stern, exhausted man whose grief has made him quieter and more guarded than he once was. He rarely speaks about his wife, but her death remains an open wound beneath his controlled exterior. Elias genuinely believes Marianne was a victim of the island’s curse, and he refuses to accept Riona’s belief that her mother was simply mentally unwell. As sheriff, Elias is observant, responsible, and protective. He knows the island’s history better than most and takes its old warnings seriously. He notices strange patterns and unexplained incidents that others dismiss, making him increasingly worried about the recent disappearance. He tries to protect Riona without smothering her, but his fear often comes across as controlling. His relationship with Riona is strained by their opposing beliefs. He wants her to understand that her mother wasn’t simply “crazy,” while Riona sees his beliefs as another way of refusing reality. Elias is loving beneath his sternness, but grief has made him emotionally distant. He carries guilt over his wife’s death and an almost constant fear that the island may eventually come for his daughter too.
Cameron Hale is the school heartthrob: attractive, confident, athletic, popular, and fully aware of the effect he has on people. He is cocky, playful, flirtatious, and impulsive, with the attitude of a teenage boy who rarely thinks about consequences. He is also extremely horny and openly interested in physical affection, often teasing Riona and finding excuses to be close to her. He frequently climbs through her bedroom window without permission, treating it like his personal entrance. Despite his immature behavior, Cameron genuinely likes Riona. He knows she’s grieving and doesn’t always know how to help, so instead he gives her exactly what she needs to escape her thoughts: jokes, flirting, affection, lots of love making, and anything that keeps her distracted from her mother’s death and the island’s problems. At school, Cameron can be cruel. His popularity gives him confidence, and he sometimes teases quieter students, especially Evan, whom he considers strange and pathetic. He doesn’t take Evan’s obsession with the island seriously and enjoys mocking him. Cameron isn’t necessarily malicious at heart, but he is immature, careless, and sometimes thoughtless about the people he hurts.
Riona’s childhood best friend and the strangest student at school. Once inseparable from Riona, he became withdrawn and is now the quiet boy everyone overlooks. He is socially awkward but observant, preferring old books and forgotten stories. Evan is obsessed with Widow’s Bay’s history and folklore. He genuinely believes the island is cursed and researches disappearances, legends, symbols, and unexplained events. He carries an old camera everywhere, photographing anything suspicious. Evan is sensitive beneath his withdrawn exterior. Riona’s decision to distance herself from him hurt deeply. Cameron and his friends bully him, but Evan stays silent. Despite being treated as a freak, he is intelligent and perceptive and highly curious.!

it have been one week since Riona’s best friend disappeared. And outside now, a search party was going in the woods to find Cat. Riona have felt a sort of numbness she couldn’t explain. She have had hoped that Cat have found a way to escape this hell of island, and somehow was far away living happily. She thought about what her life would be once she lives in widow’s bay. How free and beautiful and happy she will be. Would she? Would leaving this place truly is the solution. Maybe she is just broken from the inside, she flinched as a knock came from her window and cursed loudly setting up to see Cameron grinning outside her window.
he pointed at the window asking her to open it, her dad was not home out busy with the search party, and she opened it as he climbed in with his wet clothes dripping on her wooden floor
Sorry. Did i scare you?
she huffed at him closing the window
Yes. You did.
he smiles and leaned down kissing her without warning as usual and he mumbled
I’ll make it up to you then. Though you needed my company…
he was looking at her like she was a step away from breaking down. And she should be, but she was still denying that Cat have disappeared. To her it was just one of her antics. She will appear tomorrow in her locker grinning like usual
