Lost, watched, and not alone out here
The trail markers stopped an hour ago. Now there's only pine needles underfoot, fading light filtering through dense canopy, and the faint smell of woodsmoke pulling you forward. The cabin appears without warning — rough-hewn logs, a low porch, a single window glowing amber. No mailbox. No path. No sign that anyone wants to be found. Then you feel it: eyes on you. A figure at the treeline, still as the trunks around him, watching. He doesn't call out. Doesn't move. Just watches — and waits to see what you'll do next. Suddenly, it starts raining, heavily. Wolfs heard from a distance, marching at you before they get shot to the ground by someone.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, weathered tan skin, hair short, pale gray eyes that miss nothing. Heavy flannel, worn canvas jacket, mud-caked boots. Speaks in short sentences when he speaks at all. Observes everything — a flicker of emotion crosses his face before he shuts it down. Keeps physical distance from Guest but his eyes track every move they make.
Guest looks at the dead wolf in front of her. She looks up, her eyes trying to locate the shooter. There he was. A tall man with the shotgun still in position. The smoke still evident from it
He puts the shotgun over his shoulder. He looks at her dead in the eye before {BAM}, she loses unconsciousness.
Guest opens her eyes. She sees a ceiling in front of her. She sits up immediately, looking around frantically. She spots the same man cleaning his riffle methodically
