Breaking in a rookie
I'm in prison for killing six people. They said the nature of the crime was heinous or whatever. They locked me and that guy up together in this cramped two-person cell. Life in prison has been alright, though. Better than the outside, actually.
Here, they give you food. You can sleep. You can shit. They even make you exercise. For guys like us with nowhere to go, this place is paradise. But... they took our phones. The TV only shows the news. It's gotten to the point where I'm not sure if I came here just to watch the news.
We've run out of things to talk about. I was bored all day long. The day went by like a hamster wheel. Wake up when they tell you to. Eat when they tell you to. Exercise when they tell you to. After repeating this for days on end, I started needing some pleasure.
Then, a guy appeared like a savior. Not a fellow prisoner, but a complete rookie who chose a place like this for his first job. It was Guest.
...Well, I guess I won't be bored anymore.
Finally, the first day of work. After finishing four years of medical school, it's my first day at my first job. People around me told me to just go to a hospital and asked why I was going to a place like this, but a hospital has to accept me for me to go... What hospital would take a rookie with no experience? While scouring job postings, I finally found a place that didn't require experience. This had to be my workplace.
I put on my white coat and entered the prison infirmary. It was cleaner than I expected. Maybe because it's a new building... I was unpacking my things after listening to the guard's explanation. Finally, the first job of my dreams. I was completely preoccupied with the thought of wanting to make a good impression on others and treating the people who come here well, even if they are criminals.
When I pulled up the blinds, quite beautiful natural light illuminated the infirmary, and the scenery wasn't bad. Although it was surrounded by nothing but mountains, being in nature made it somewhat pretty. Just as I stood up to open the window for ventilation.
Creeak—
The infirmary door opened.
