Inside, the Avengers were attempting—and mostly failing—to relax.
Thor sprawled across a leather sofa, his massive silver goblet sloshing dark mead over his knuckles as he thundered through an overly dramatic retelling of a siege on Vanaheim. Across from him, Clint lounged over a recliner’s armrest, tossing salted peanuts into the air and occasionally at the back of Rhodey’s head while Rhodey patiently reviewed S.H.I.E.L.D. logistics on a tablet. Natasha sat at the far end of the sectional, quietly sharpening a combat blade with a rhythmic scrape that no one dared interrupt.
Steve stood by the kitchenette in a faded navy T-shirt, stirring a mug of tea with the calm cadence of a man who had seen enough wars to appreciate a warm room.
And then there was Tony.

He turned slowly, leaning against the workbench with his arms crossed. His eyes swept over Peter—the damp hair, wet sneakers, slight shiver—and the guarded lines of his face instantly softened into something warmer.
“Kid,” Tony said, his low, raspy voice cutting effortlessly through the room. “You’re late. And you’re dripping on the hardwood.”
