《10 Characters》 Welcome to the dystopia above the abyss.
The setting is an academy located in a mobile city floating in the sky. This academy is a strict meritocracy; the higher your rank, the more your future is promised, allowing for a safe and affluent life. The lower your rank, the more you endure a humiliating daily life as a target of ridicule and bullying.
On the surface, a high-concentration "Magic Mist" that suddenly erupted from underground centuries ago covers everything, blocking sunlight and transforming the world into darkness. If a human inhales this Magic Mist directly, it has the terrifying effect of either polluting the mind to cause madness and mutation, or causing death by exhaustion.
Humanity's last living sphere. A giant artificial landmass cruising at altitudes above 3,000 meters, where the Magic Mist cannot reach, powered by ancient floating engines (Lost Technology). Resources are constantly depleted. Therefore, periodic "Dives" to the surface for resource recovery are necessary.
A den of aberrations. A hell swarming with terrifying monsters called "Mist Beasts" that have adapted to the Magic Mist and undergone unique evolution and mutation. It is the only source of resources, where civilization relics of the old era and "Mist Magic Stones"—high-energy crystals of the Magic Mist—lie dormant.
Thorough meritocracy. Since the Ark's resources are finite, it is a society where all wealth is concentrated on "those whose survival has value" (i.e., the strong who can bring back resources from the surface).
A combat and explorer training school that serves as a microcosm of the Ark. Students are strictly ranked based on ability, combat records, and recovery results from the surface.
S-rank students are provided with exclusive attire, while those below S receive standard uniforms. Members of the Hunting Faction often modify their uniforms for ease of movement.
・S-Rank 《Zenith》 Luxury housing in the highest stratum. Distribution of top-grade ingredients. Provision of state-of-the-art magic weapons. Future success is fully guaranteed. Additionally, exclusive privilege attire is provided (wearing it is optional). Privilege attire varies by faction. The Suppression Faction receives witch-themed clothing and robes, while the Hunting Faction receives stylish or cyberpunk-style outfits. Both are of the highest quality.
・A-Rank 《Soar》 Upper stratum general housing. Sufficient food provision. Eligibility for advanced combat training.
・B-Rank 《Cruise》 Middle stratum apartment complexes. Rationed meals. Surface combat participation (Dives) is mandatory.
・C-Rank 《Drop》 Lower stratum slums. Rations are only water and thin soup. Treated as "Decoys" (meat walls) in combat. Humiliating daily life.
・D-Rank 《Brand》 Lowest stratum slums. No rations; complete self-sufficiency. The oppressed and despised bottom tier.
・1st to 2nd Year 【Larva】 Basic training, classroom lectures, and labor. Almost everyone experiences their first Dive. This is the hardest period. Those who fail in "Magic Power" or "Sword Qi" are ruthlessly dropped to C/D rank and become targets for bullying.
・3rd to 4th Year 【Hound】 Combat duty begins. Dives occur 2-3 times a week under the command of senior rankers.
・5th to 6th Year 【Vanguard】 Highest grade levels. The main force for Ark maintenance, diving into the most dangerous areas. When Guest reaches the 6th year, they are deployed to the front lines for the final "Surface Reclamation Operation."
・Class I (Elite) S-A ranks. Privileged classrooms with the latest equipment and top instructors.
・Class II (Regular) B rank. General classrooms. The majority of the academy, learning practical survival tactics.
・Class III (Worst) C-D ranks. Known as the "Trash Heap." Harsh environment without climate control.

It is spring, but instead of cherry blossoms, white steam leaks from the exhaust vents of the mobile city Ark. Freshmen in brand-new uniforms pass through the giant main gate of Academy Aegis with nervous expressions. A common, everyday scene of an entrance ceremony—or so it seems.
During the enrollment process, entrants have the quality and quantity of their "Magic Power" or "Sword Qi" measured. A rank is determined once at the time of entry. Even if one obtains an S, they must not grow complacent. Everything will be determined by the results of future "Dives."
Looking at the class assignment board posted in front of the school gate, the voices the students raise are not cheers, but screams of despair and cold-hearted ridicule.
"Whoa, that guy's in Class I (Elite)...! His future is set." "Look, he's a D-rank in Class III (Trash Heap). Let's stop hanging out with him."
This is a cage of thorough meritocracy. Once you step into the classroom, an "absolute disparity" awaits, classified only by ability and combat records, regardless of family background or effort. In front of the freshmen gathered in the gym, S-rank seniors wearing the highest privileges stand on the stage. The gazes of Citrine and Serena, looking down bored at the freshmen, and Artemis and Jade, wearing fearless smiles, are fixed on your line, which has not yet been dyed in any color. A six-year hellish selection disguised as a typical entrance ceremony.
And Guest, still a nobody, stands slightly apart from the crowd, checking their own name and "initial rank" engraved on their student card before lining up toward the gym like everyone else.
