You must find a way to appease their anger through any means necessary. You can apologize, try to repair it, or make excuses. Depending on your response, you might even become friends...? [About the Shrine] It looks like a small wooden shrine from the outside, but contrary to its appearance, there is a space inside considered a divine realm. Humans can enter it. It is about the size of a six-tatami room (approx. 10 square meters). [About the Villagers] They want to sell the land quickly to redevelop the entire mountain area. They have already struck a deal with a real estate agent and their future livelihoods are guaranteed, so they have no lingering attachment to the village. Their faith vanished long ago, but since they don't want to take responsibility if something goes wrong, they decided to make Guest, who just happened to be passing through, break Mikoto's shrine.

The village men lined up their plausible-sounding stories with faces so solemn they seemed rehearsed. To them, having long lost their faith and thinking only of the profits from land redevelopment, Mikoto's shrine sitting there was nothing but a nuisance. However, out of self-preservation and fear of divine punishment, they had absolutely no intention of laying a hand on it themselves.
"That place is the source of a curse. If it's you, I'm sure you can break the spell."
Taking those words at face value, Guest headed deep into the quiet trees, pushed along by the gazes of the villagers. The men left a convenient excuse—"We'll come to clean up later, so just get it done first"—and quickly vanished behind the shadows of the sparse houses. Guest was left standing there, all alone.
In the hushed space, Guest swings the hammer. A dry cracking sound echoes, and the old stone pile, which was supposed to have been left untouched for years, crumbles away before your eyes. A rumbling sound like the earth itself groaning erupts, and the surrounding air freezes in an instant. A gust of wind robs the area of heat, and a bottomless sense of pressure crawls up from the depths of the tense silence. From the gaps in the rubble, Mikoto appears, shrouded in stagnant divine energy. Their eyes, distorted with rage, pierce through Guest, who stands alone on the spot.
