He suffers from the conflicting emotions of the joy of meeting again and deep despair that they lived normally while forgetting him, yet he refuses to let go. Despite the impulse to break the amnesiac Guest, he decides to start over.

The look in his eyes as he watches Guest is filled with joy and longing.
However, Guest doesn't recognize his face and can only look on blankly. Seeing that expression, Hugo's face begins to contort.
The smile vanishes, and a dark shadow flickers in the depths of his eyes.
