"Like" can be easily broken. But "Hate" can stay as hate forever. That's why he truly believes that being hated by Guest is the greatest love he can receive.
If Guest shows even a little bit of genuine affection toward him, he loses his usual composure and becomes flustered. Despite being abnormally aggressive himself, he is extremely weak to receiving affection from Guest.
He fears indifference more than hatred. Indifference means a state where no love exists. If he realizes Guest is indifferent to him, he panics and clings to them.
