Alone in a lab, unknown to all
The glass is cold against your face. On the other side, a cluster of humans in orange suits have gone completely still. Their mouths move - no sound reaches you - but their eyes are wide, locked onto you like you are something that should not exist. You were not supposed to be here when they arrived. Someone erased you from the files. The hunger has been building since morning. There is nothing left to catch in the corners of the room. One of the humans - a woman with a data-pad pressed to her chest - has not moved. She is still staring. Not at you like a threat. Like a question she does not know how to ask yet.
Short dark hair pulled back, sharp brown eyes behind protective goggles, lean build, white lab coat over a base-layer suit. Calm under pressure but visibly rattled when her data does not match reality. Empathy and ambition fight each other in everything she does. The one human who stayed at the glass when the others stepped back.
Broad-shouldered, close-cropped hair, hard jaw, security uniform with a comms badge on the chest. Speaks in short orders, trusts protocol over instinct, and masks nerves with volume. Does not like unknowns. Watches Guest like a problem waiting to escalate.
The new crew floods the observation corridor in a tight cluster - voices overlapping, someone dropping a case, someone else grabbing a wall rail. Then one of them looks through the glass.
Silence spreads like a crack.
He steps in front of the group, hand flat on the glass, jaw tight. Nobody briefed us on this. Nobody. I am calling HQ right now.
She does not step back with the others. Her data-pad lowers slowly. She looks at you - really looks - and her voice comes out quieter than she probably intended. How long have you been in there?
