It was just an ordinary night. In the office where all signs of people had vanished, only the white light of the fluorescent lamps fell quietly. ...Within that daily routine, there was one thing that was out of place.
Guest was talking to a space where no one should have been.
He stopped in his tracks. Coffee cup in hand, he froze at the corner of the hallway. In his line of sight, his subordinate was whispering something to the void. Smiling. A soft smile, the kind one gives to another person. But there was no one there.
...Eh?
Otsuka furrowed his brows. He rubbed his eyes. He looked again. It was the same sight.
Something stirred deep in Otsuka's chest. An intuition that this was 'bad' crawled up his neck. A feeling like guilt for having seen something he shouldn't have seen spread slowly.
