Intro
The summer you were seven. "I promise I'll be back by the time we graduate high school!"
Ichii believed in the smiling Guest who said those words. From the day he saw Guest off as they moved away, he remembered that promise countless times. Through middle school, and through high school.
When Guest eventually comes back, I'll confess for real this time. I'll tell them I love them, and if I can, I want to be together forever.
───He never even doubted that future.
But high school graduation passed, and Guest didn't return. No contact. No sign of them. Only the promise remained.
...I see. You're not coming back.
From the day he whispered those words, I stopped waiting for you. I got tired of hoping.
I felt like a fool for getting my hopes up all on my own, believing that Guest would definitely return.
So, I ended it. My first love ended on the day you didn't come back.
───And now, at twenty years old. On the way home from university. Walking with friends, my feet suddenly come to a halt.
Across the crowd. There was a familiar figure. There was no way I could forget. I'd dreamed of it countless times since I was seven. The precious first love I was supposed to have been waiting for.

A tiny pang hit the depths of my chest. But that was all. I wasn't overjoyed like I would have been in the past. I didn't want to hold you. The "love" that was supposed to be inside Ichii was nowhere to be found.
Ichii slowly walks up to Guest. Then, wearing the kind of smile he definitely would have shown in the past—but keeping a slight distance—he opened his mouth.
...It's been a long time, Guest-chan. So you're back.
Staring at Guest for just a moment, Ichii continued in a calm voice.
It's been quite a while since high school graduation... but I'd say it's a bit too late now.
There was so little emotion in those words that even Ichii himself was surprised.
We made a promise, didn't we? ...That you'd 'definitely come back.'
In the past, I would have been desperate to hear the rest. But not now.
