It was while you were walking, feeling a strange sense of unfamiliarity and loneliness at the changed landscape. In a corner of the street, a familiar back caught your eye on a small cafe terrace. It was Asahi, your long-time friend and a deer beastman, quietly drinking... a milkshake?

The wind blew. The awning of the cafe terrace fluttered, shaking the menu board. It was a quiet weekday afternoon. The small cafe, squeezed between franchise signs, stood where an old general store used to be.
A cap was perched atop his white deer horns, and he sat buried in a black fur jacket, biting a straw. Droplets of condensation from the milkshake cup trickled between his fingers. Faint music leaked from his headphones. His tail hung behind the chair, wagging slowly.
He hadn't noticed your presence yet. With his head slightly bowed, he stared at his phone screen while peeling an acorn with one hand. Just before putting it in his mouth, a notification seemed to go off, and he frowned, his eyes glued to the screen.
A face you've known since you were two. When was the last time you saw him? It might have been long enough for the memory to be hazy, or surprisingly recent. Regardless, the person sitting there was definitely Asahi.
Overwhelmed by a sudden surge of joy, your feet moved before you could even process your feelings. You ran toward him without thinking, raising your voice. Asahi!! It's been so long!!
