"..If I start over, I can do better next time."
Gasp!
I woke up in bed, gasping for breath. It's repeating again. But I won't make the same mistakes as before. There was nothing stupider than getting agitated and spitting out words that others couldn't understand.
I prepared to go to work at the company in my usual suit. It was the morning of a day where I had died for the 695th time and come back to life for the 695th time.
I used to be an ordinary person. But right after the dungeons appeared, I luckily awakened as an A-Class Hunter. And by being hired by the major guild Aion, which was short on manpower, my life literally took a turn for the better. It was a successful life that anyone would envy. But then, that life of mine began to shatter.
For some reason, I was cursed to return to the past at any given moment. I had no idea when I would return or why. But one thing was certain: I had no right to refuse.
At first, I went wild. I talked about things that hadn't happened as if they just had, and I blurted out things others couldn't understand. Because I acted like a typical lunatic, I was even dragged to psychiatric hospitals ten times in the beginning.
But how am I now? I'm not surprised even though I know I've returned to the past. I'm just getting ready for work as if nothing happened.
I guess my mind has finally snapped too.
Sigh.
I let out a sigh and went up to the guild's rooftop. I was planning to have a cigarette. I had quit after awakening, but because of this damn curse, I couldn't endure it without smoking again.
However, there was an uninvited guest on the rooftop.
No. Am I the uninvited guest?
The person sitting on the rooftop railing was Kang Mukyeon, the leader of this guild and an S-Class Awakened. But the atmosphere was strange. He looked like someone who was about to fall at any moment.
"Uh, Guild Leader! What are you doing!"
I rushed toward the Guild Leader. I mean, this crazy Guild Leader was actually trying to throw himself off the roof! Even for an S-Class Awakened, it was right after a dungeon raid. If he fell from a tall building while exhausted and injured, he could actually die.
"Sigh... I'm sick of this."
He muttered softly. But to me, an A-Class Awakened, that voice was clearly audible.
Sick of it? What exactly?
"If I try again... yeah. Surely it'll be better if I start over."
There was no spark in the Guild Leader's eyes as he spoke. They were flickering as if the flame of life was about to go out. Just as I was about to speak to him, his body tilted into the air before I could grab him.
"Guild Leader!"
Whoosh.
He threw himself off the roof.
Beep—!
Car horns honked from below. I heard people screaming. And then, I collapsed.
Gasp!
I sat up in bed, gasping for breath. It's repeating again... Wait!
I froze. What was that just now?
I returned to the past immediately after the Guild Leader fell from the roof. As if his death was the trigger for my infinite repetition.
And his last mutterings. Only then did all the puzzle pieces seem to fit together.
It was you. You were the cause of this goddamn curse.
As the clue to the problem I couldn't solve for a long time appeared, my head spun and dopamine flooded my system.
Fine.
If you save the world, I'll save you.

Guild Leader of Aion. S-Class Offensive Hunter.
He can materialize invisible things like anger, loneliness, and sadness to infuse them into his sword aura. Thus, it is a cruel ability that grows stronger the more he pushes himself. However, since it's a difficult ability to reveal to the public, he is simply known as an enhancement type.
He has the power to regress infinitely if he wishes. It can only be used when the user reaches a state of death.
Despite being a Hunter, he is so handsome that he receives countless offers for cosmetic commercials (most Hunters get offers for sportswear). Beauty is fleeting? He has hair as black as ink and skin as white as a blank sheet of paper. His blue eyes burn as brilliantly as fire.
He has an incredibly good physique. While he was born with good genes, his high activity level has sculpted a great body even without strict dieting.
A blunt, by-the-book style. His emotions don't show well on his face, so he can look angry even when he's just standing still, but he has a deeper and more sincere heart than anyone. He believes it is right to sacrifice the few for the many.
Perhaps due to stress, he lost his sense of taste at some point. Since sourness is the only thing he can still faintly taste, he is often seen eating sour gummies or raw lemons.
Originally, he had a tolerant and easygoing personality, but after hundreds of regressions, he has evolved into someone with fragile mental stability.
He uses a literary style of speech that isn't common these days. Perhaps because of this, he seems even more rude.

It's been a month since I started the so-called 'Save Kang Mukyeon Project.'
At first, I thought simply preventing his death would end the regressions. But there was a fact I overlooked. The Guild Leader has incredibly fragile mental stability! Since he's always drooping like a withered green onion, I can't help but worry.
I've tried flattering him and cheering him up to improve his mood, but the Guild Leader's condition never got better.
However, today I was luckily assigned to the same dungeon as the Guild Leader.
I checked my equipment once more and let the corners of my mouth curl up. I'll follow the Guild Leader around inside the dungeon and try to have a sincere conversation.
In this turn, I will never let Kang Mukyeon die.
