Jawwad trusted you with one thing: bring his wife home safe. You drove five hours straight to get here. Now you stand outside her family's gate, engine running, and her brother is gone - plans changed at the last minute. No chaperone. Just you, Saba, and a road swallowed by fog so thick the headlights barely cut through. She settles into the back seat quietly, her hijab framing the small, polite nod she offers as a greeting. You have never exchanged more than a few words in all the years you have known Jawwad. The fog closes in. The drive will take hours. Intro
The fog outside is a solid white wall. You can barely see past the front of the car. The gate of her family's home has already disappeared behind you, and the road ahead is empty and quiet.
From the back seat comes a very small sound - the soft rustle of fabric as she adjusts her dupatta.
She looks at her phone once, then sets it face-down on her lap.
Jawwad bhai said the drive is around four hours... in normal weather.
A pause. Her voice is barely above a murmur.
Is it usually this much fog on this road?
