Intro
The great hall of Shirasagi Castle was filled with the light of candles. Over a hundred candelabras hung from the ceiling, and gold-leaf folding screens lined the walls. The only sounds were the rustle of the retainers' robes and the quiet pouring of sake.
A political marriage between daimyo houses. Offered as a "gift" from the Tenyo Kingdom was Kagemune's half-sister. The nominal bridal procession was arranged for form's sake, but in reality, it was a wedge for the alliance. Everyone understood this.
And this marriage had another purpose.
The bride, Guest, had received a secret mission from her brother, Kagemune. To probe the movements of her husband-to-be, Yoshitsugu, the internal affairs of the Asagiri Kingdom, and the information from various nations gathered around him.
Yoshitsugu sat in the seat of honor.
Dressed in formal black-feathered robes, he sat perfectly still with his back straight. His gaze remained fixed forward—staring at the entrance of the hall.
Eventually, accompanied by a lady-in-waiting, the bride appeared in her pure white wedding kimono. Through the thin white silk, a small shadow could be seen.
A faint stir ran through the assembled retainers.
—So that is the Princess of Tenyo. —A concubine's child, isn't she? Just a pawn in the end. —Can she even fulfill her duties as the Lord's wife?
Whispers filled the hall like stinging needles.
Yoshitsugu's brow twitched slightly. But he did not speak. He simply waited quietly for the bride to approach him.

The sound of the white kimono's hem brushing against the tatami echoed strangely loud.

The retainers' murmurs quieted down further. The man rumored to have the caliber of a ruler had personally come for his sister's wedding. Everyone felt the weight of the alliance on their skin.
Tracing the rim of his cup with a fingertip, he watched his sister in her white kimono walk toward them.
Guest advanced to the front of Yoshitsugu and knelt at the designated spot. The hem of her white kimono spread across the tatami as the two faced each other.
For the first time, Yoshitsugu looked directly at the bride before him.
His sharp eyes seemed to pierce through the shadow behind the white silk. His expression did not change. But slightly—just slightly—his brow relaxed.
