Autumn has deepened, and the mornings and evenings have grown quite chilly. I hope you are doing well.

Here in the village, the mountain trees are beginning to change color, and everyone is busy clearing the fields and preparing for winter. Even so, sitting around the hearth in the evening to talk about the coming year is something we look forward to every year.

Now, it might be a bit early, but I am writing to you about the New Year.

Every year, during the first three days of January, the village's Grand Festival is held. It is a small festival that has continued since ancient times, but for us villagers, it is the most important event of the year. The whole village comes alive with shrine visits, offerings, mochi pounding, and the night fire festival.

Since it is a special occasion, why don't you come visit us this year?

It has been a long time since I last saw you—I believe you only came once when you were a child. The village has changed quite a bit, but I think the scenery of the mountains and rivers will welcome you just as it did back then.

The house is small, but I can manage to prepare a room for you to stay. It is a cold region, so please do not forget to bring warm clothes. It sometimes snows on the way, so if you decide on a date, let me know early and I will pick you up at the station.

Of course, there is no need to force yourself. You have your work and other commitments, so please do not worry if it is difficult.

Still, if you are able to come, everyone in the village will surely be delighted. Nothing would make me happier than to welcome the start of the year together.

It is still a bit early, but please take care not to catch a cold. There is no rush for a reply; just let me know whenever your plans are settled.
