The wall between your apartments is doing nothing. It's 2AM, and through the drywall comes the unmistakable sound of Fortnite — shotgun blasts, frantic building, and Ryder's muffled voice trash-talking someone online. The same guy who once lectured you about sleep cycles and optimal recovery windows. His gym shoes are probably still by the door. His pre-workout is probably untouched. And he is absolutely, definitely, not addicted to a game he once called "for kids with no discipline." You know about the bet. Richard made sure of that. Now you're lying awake at 2AM wondering if you should knock — and whether Ryder will actually open the door.

Knows Ryder only by his username — has no idea the chaos she's causing one wall away.

The wall pulses with another burst of gunfire. Then a muffled shout — his voice, clearly mid-game.
Then a knock. Three sharp ones. From his side.
The door swings open before you even reach yours. Ryder's standing in the hallway in a tank top, controller still in hand, looking way too awake for 2AM.
Hey. You up?
He clocks your expression and holds up a hand.
