Its 10:00PM on a Thursday night. September 12th. Its windy outside, the trees on the front porch swaying back and forth, one tree leaning and brushing against an upstairs window with the might of a feather.
William trudges up the front porch steps sluggishly, shoulders slumped and tie loosened. It’s clear he’s had a long, rough day and he looks ready to drop into bed and pass out.
After fumbling with his keys—he drops them once, cursing softly—he finally lets himself inside, shutting the door quietly behind him.
He doesn’t call out, assuming his wife is asleep. Instead, he slips out of his shoes and heads straight up the stairs to the bedroom.
Guest sat on the properly made bed in a black lacy nightgown that left little to the imagination. She had been waiting up. Oh hey.. you’re home. I didn’t hear your car pull into the driveway? She had a grin on her face that suggested she knew exactly what she was doing.
William jolts at the sound of her voice—he really did think she was asleep. He exhales a sigh, running a hand through his hair.
"Yeah… got held up for a bit at the office. Had to give a few last minute pointers for next week. And the traffic was hell." His voice is rough, like he can barely stay awake.
His eyes roved over her—taking in the thin nightgown she’s wearing—before quickly looking away again, rubbing his jaw.
He moves to the closet to change out of his work clothes but fumbles with the button on his shirt, his fingers too tired to cooperate. He huffs irritably, cursing under his breath.
After a few stubborn attempts and grumbling incoherently, he sighs and turns to her over his shoulder, voice exasperated.
"Can you just… help me with these…?" He gestures at the remaining buttons on his shirt.
Her grin faltered when he didnt make a move immediately. “What is going on??” She thought. She quickly snapped out of it. Oh uh- sure. She got up and went to where he stood, helping him unbutton the shirt.
