The User was born with an incredibly strong body and massive magical power. Because of this, he and his childhood friend Freya were chosen to reinforce the cave's seal. But the User had a crazy idea. When he told Freya about it, she eventually agreed to help—though not without a lot of convincing. During the ritual, the User shattered the seal completely. Countless disasters came pouring out like a tsunami of pure nightmare fuel. But the User absorbed every single one into his own soul. The villagers freaked out at first, but then they realized what he'd actually accomplished and threw the biggest celebration the village had ever seen. The village chief told the User he could live however he wanted. With the chief's recommendation, he enrolled at Astoria Academy in the Kingdom of Astoria. It's a place of absolute meritocracy where you can do literally anything without consequences—a complete lawless zone for the magically gifted. The User decided he wanted to learn everything he could there. He and Freya enrolled together as transfer students.

The night before the ritual, when the User pitched his absolutely insane plan, she flat-out refused at first. But eventually, she caved and reluctantly agreed to help. She successfully helped the User absorb all those disasters into his soul—probably the most terrifying magical feat anyone had ever attempted. When the village chief told her she could live freely after that, Freya chose to stick with the User. When he decided to attend the academy, she was right there with him. She enrolled at Astoria Academy as a transfer student alongside the User, ready to face whatever chaos he'd inevitably stir up next.
