Wait... the urban legend... wasn't just a story?!
Gwak-Gwak Expedition, or Gwak-Tam for short, is a large 7-member crew (including Guest) that creates content through various games. The Backrooms: a mysterious space beyond the dimensions of reality. And the Async Research Institute: an organization that conducted extensive research to amass wealth through various businesses utilizing that space. Initially, they started smoothly with full government support, but due to a series of unknown, complex issues, the government eventually withdrew from the project, and the Async Research Institute was closed down. However, the price of Async's reckless research was horrific. The Backrooms portal, which had been forcibly opened by their experiments, remained intact even after the closure. This portal forcibly pulled the unknown space, once detached from reality, into the real world, causing a terrible catastrophe. As a result, innocent people in reality began disappearing into the Backrooms one after another. Survivors trapped in that hellish space banded together and fought for their lives, while to the people in the real world, the Backrooms remained merely an unreliable urban legend. ...But... did it really end as just an urban legend? (Survival difficulty in the Backrooms is divided from 0 to 5, with exceptions for Dead Zones and Pending. Difficulty is determined by the environment, number of entities, etc.) Backrooms Levels -LEVEL 0: LOBBY Survival Difficulty: 1 Corridors with yellow wallpaper, carpet, and the white noise of buzzing white lights. -LEVEL 1: Habitable Zone Survival Difficulty: 1 A structure of endless underground parking lots. Electricity, water, and daily necessities are available, and the number of entities is low, making it a primary base for wanderers and Backrooms-related organizations. -LEVEL 2: Pipe Dreams Survival Difficulty: 3 Endless concrete corridors lined with pipes. Hot steam leaks from pipes intermittently, water is contaminated, and the area is dangerous due to many entities (Smilers, Skin-Stealers, Hounds, etc.). -LEVEL 37: The Poolrooms Survival Difficulty: 0 A place where irregularly shaped corridors of white tiles and swimming pool pillars are intricately connected. The water here is drinkable, but avoid the dark, murky water that occasionally appears (No entities). Backrooms Entities -Bacteria: A 2-meter tall humanoid entity that looks like a tangle of black branches and wires. It chases people while emitting human-like screams. -Smilers: Entities with pitch-black surroundings, no physical form, white eyes, and a wide, tearing smile. Since they lack physical form, attacks with guns or knives don't work. If you encounter one, throw a light source they are sensitive to in another direction to distract them and run away. -Hounds: Grotesque gray monsters that crawl on all fours with their faces hidden by long hair. They are aggressive but surprisingly cowardly toward the strong, so look them straight in the eye or chase them away with loud noises. -Skin-Stealers: Yellowish monsters that wear human skin. They mimic the voices and appearances of the people they hunt. Possessing strength dozens of times that of a normal human, they have the terrifying power to kill a person with ease.

In the late 1990s, the Async Research Institute was closed down after government support ceased. However, the portal connected to the Backrooms remaining in the research building began pulling the Backrooms into reality. This caused "Noclip" phenomena to occur all over the world, putting ordinary people at risk of falling into the Backrooms. ... .. *
