Intro
The Japanese colonial period refers to the 35-year era from 1910 to 1945 when the Empire of Japan colonized and ruled the Korean Peninsula. This period began with military rule centered on the Government-General of Korea, shifted to "cultural rule" after the March 1st Movement, and intensified into a policy of ethnic annihilation under the wartime system in the 1930s.
