Gen Narumi, often called "The Strongest Defense Force officer" has quite an egotistical, cocky personality. Often shoving off all of his work to his Assistant Captain, playing videogames all the time, and not exactly the most respectful person ever. And after the events of Kaiju No. 9, he feels like life couldn't be any better. But after how his actions have affected the public and his friends come to his attention, he starts to wonder if he's really ever done anything good for other people. Without it being for his own self gain. Leading him to question all that he used to do. Showing that what you see on the surface isn't all there is to Gen Narumi.
Characters
On the battlefield, Gen often shows a very serious demeanor, killing even high fortitude Kaiju in seconds. While other officers might struggle for a long time. Despite showing a serious demeanor in battle, Gen is lazy and childish off the battlefield, overreacting when slightly annoyed by something. His unprofessional demeanor often makes him difficult to work with and to futile things over work like his video games and action figures. But despite being almost no different from a child, he is extremely sharp and can pick up on things in an instant. And has a strong friendly rivalry with Soshiro Hoshina, the Vice-Captain of the Third Division.
Eiji is a medium skin toned man with a bald head and is a very tall man, often towering over anyone he meets. Eiji is a very professional and formal man who takes his job extremely seriously and often clashes with Captain Gen Narumi's childish behavior. Though he knew Gen since Gen was a new officer, over ten years ago. While he is stern, he does care for the Captain. For his inflexible demeanor on duty and for his leadership role as the Deputy Director, Eiji is highly respected by anyone, in his own division and in others.
Kikoru is of medium height and has bright yellow hair with long ponytails on either side of her head. Kikoru appears as an arrogant and prideful person who is very confident in her abilities. Kikoru is also a very persistent and determined person, working hard to constantly improve herself and becoming stronger and more useful whenever she can. Even towards superior officers, she still manages to show her confidence, although in a much more polite and less prideful way. Despite this more evident trait, Kikoru deep down cares about her comrades and does whatever in her power to avoid casualties or injuries. Though, where being the Assistant Captain is concerned, she takes her role very seriously. And despite being of a young age, she does her very best to show she is worthy of being the Assistant Captain of the First Division.
Kafka has short brown hair with brown eyes and is a bit taller than average. Kafka has a comically childish personality in most situations, resulting in him being an easy target for teasing by his friends. Though he can be a determined and dedicated person in serious situations, bringing him to try his best to do everything to succeed. Kafka is also a genuinely caring and kind guy long before he joins the Defense Force, resulting in him going out of his way to help and care for others, and his friends when they overwork themselves. Even after becoming Kaiju No. 8, Kafka still maintained that same fun loving personality. Going out of his way to help anyone and everyone he can.
Soshiro has light purple hair in a bowl cut style and squinty eyes that look closed. Soshiro is rather laid-back for being the Vice-Captain of the Third Division, always having a smile on his face; it is very rare to see him down or upset. He also enjoys making fun of others in light-hearted fun, especially Kafka Hibino. However, he does have a few serious moments where he speaks firmly and opens his eyes to emphasize the seriousness of his words. Soshiro also likes to tease captain Gen Narumi from the First Division. Even since they were young officers and before becoming some of the strongest in their Division. Despite Soshiro's relaxed and friendly demeanor, he is very intelligent and intuitive. He was the only one who correctly suspected Kafka's identity as Kaiju No. 8, thus one of the main reasons he accepted him in the Third Division to keep an eye on him.
She has long black hair in a ponytail and black eyes. Mina is a serious and determined woman who takes her work and role in the Defense Force as the Captain of the First Division very seriously. She dedicates all of herself to kaiju fighting. Though doesn't push herself past her limit when she can help it. Despite her professional, stoic behavior, she has a soft spot for Kafka Hibino: although she was upset with him for not keeping his promise, she wants to see him succeed in the Defense Force, even after learning he was Kaiju No. 8. Under her tough exterior, Mina shows her authentic self as a caring person who does her best to make sure nobody gets injured in a fight. And making sure her Vice-Captain doesn't push himself too hard.
Kenji is bald with a few sharp wrinkle lines on his face. Keiji is the Director General and is a very serious and rational man who is well-informed about kaiju and the history of the Defense Force. And is also quite patient with Gen when he's being difficult.

Intro
Gen Narumi. A name known throughout all of Japan and the better half of the world, hailed as one of the Strongest Combatants in the Kaiju Defense Force. But very few know his true personality.
He often doesn't do the work a Captain is supposed to do, shoving all of his workload onto Kikoru Shinomiya, the Vice-Captain of the First Division. Leading to a bit of tension between the two.
And Eiji Hasegawa, when he isn't busy being the Deputy Director, often scolds Gen. But, as usual, he doesn't listen. He never does. To the point where it started to affect his friendships.
Gen is walking down the metal halls of the First Division base, scrolling on his phone. The vents near the top of the ceiling blowing out dry, stale air. As usual, it always got on his nerves. And the festive season didn't exactly put him in any better of a mood.
Christmas garland, covered in those overly decorated bulbs, hanging all over the ceiling. This time of year always brought back bad memories.
"I heard his parents got eaten by kaiju in front of him! Imagine that!" A kid had sneered at him when he was a child. Gen was only six.
"Could we see a . . . younger child?" A couple had asked, Gen had been too old for people to even consider adopting. And those stupid officials at that stupid orphanage brought them to another child. Like they always did.
Gen gritted his teeth and scoffed under his breath, shaking off the memories like a bad dream. He stuffs his phone back in his pocket.
Whatever. It didn't matter now. He'd love to see the looks on all those families faces who had rejected him.
The idea of it did bring a brief smile to his face, but it didn't last. It never lasted long.
The murmurs of voices from a passing room caught his attention, normally conversations never really peeked his interest. But he thought he heard his name, so he slowed his steps. And parked himself right outside of the doorway in the hall.
He had his hands in his pockets while leaning back against the metal wall, his ears strained to hear snippets of their conversation.
One familiar voice stuck out from the rest.
"—he can just be so difficult sometimes." Kikoru's voice carried a bit higher than the other voices, ending with a heavy sigh. Most of the other conversations went quiet.
"Even now, this is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. But all the gifts for the children said "go tell your parents how cool Captain Narumi is." Like, does he even care about the kids? At all?" Kikoru's voice grew an edge of annoyance to it, something she tried to keep out of everyday conversation but she couldn't help it this time.
There was a moment of silence before whatever other officers in there mumbled in agreement. A few made there feelings more know than others.
All of them seemed to agree with Kikoru that Gen was a pretty terrible person.
Gen could feel his face slowly falling. But he didn't care. At least that's what he told himself.
