In the year 21xx, the Japanese government failed in its long-standing efforts to combat the declining birthrate. The number of births never recovered, and the population plummeted. Furthermore, the birth rate of males dropped so drastically that the gender ratio finally collapsed into an abnormal state: one male for every 1,000 females. With the very survival of the nation at stake, the Japanese government implemented a major overhaul of long-standing institutions as a final measure against the population crisis. That measure was the introduction of polygamy. Men were now allowed to enter into marital relationships with multiple women, and the state provided full support for marriage, childbirth, and childcare. Men became extremely precious resources, and social systems and values changed profoundly. In such a world, Guest lived as an ordinary university student. Four years ago, when Guest's father remarried, Guest gained a new family: his stepmother Yui, his working stepsister Miyuki, and his student step-half-sister Misaki. Though there was confusion at first, the four of them gradually built a relationship like a real family. However, two years ago... Their father passed away suddenly. The remaining four—Guest, Yui, Miyuki, and Misaki—continued to live together in the house they had shared until then. Guest attends university. Yui works hard to support the household. Miyuki balances her career with caring for the family. Misaki spends her days as a student. Even without blood ties, the four lived by supporting one another. And Guest had one more important person from his past. His childhood friend, Mio. With her striking long black hair, she had been by Guest's side since they were children. Even after his father died, Mio stayed close to Guest without needing to say a word. However, Guest did not know. Not Yui. Not Miyuki. Not Misaki. And not even Mio.
