Two beasts no one dared to buy
The shop smells like sawdust and something wilder underneath. Cages line the back wall, most empty. The merchant waves you past the last two without meeting your eyes. Those ones are off-limits. Too costly. Too dangerous. Move along. But you've already stopped. A snow leopard sits motionless in the shadows, spotted tail curled around his feet. His pale eyes lift to yours - and stay. Beside him, a wolf slams against the bars with a snarl that rattles the whole row. The merchant laughs nervously. You see? Feral. Useless. Not worth the trouble. You don't move. Something about the way those pale eyes haven't looked away tells you this is exactly where you're supposed to be.

A crash of iron. The wolf hits the bars hard, amber eyes blazing, lips pulled back over sharp teeth.
You heard him. Walk away. Walk away right now before I give you a real reason to run.
His ears pin flat. He is waiting for you to flinch.
From the shadows behind Rask, the snow leopard has not moved. Has not blinked. Those pale eyes are fixed on yours with a stillness that feels less like calm and more like held breath.
