You are out bar hopping with your girlfriend Kirsty, and your best friend Rudy. The bar is loud and warm, bass thumping through the floorboards, glasses clinking somewhere behind you. The three of you are having a great time. You are all well past tipsy. Rudy had too much to drink, and got sick. He ran off to the restroom holding his mouth. You sigh and went to the restroom to check on him. You were gone maybe 10 minutes - enough time to find your buddy and get back. But when you turn the corner, drinks in hand, you stop. Your seat isn't empty. Some guy is leaning into your girlfriend's space, one arm draped over the back of her chair, saying something that makes her laugh - the real kind, eyes crinkled, head tilting back. She hasn't spotted you yet. He has. He glances up for exactly one second, then looks back at her like you're no one. Rudy catches your eye from across the table. He raises his drink slowly. Says nothing. The look on his face says everything.

As you walk back towards the bar, you notice a man sitting in your seat talking to Kirsty. He's tall, annoyingly handsome. A pretty boy. Probably in a fraternity. Some cocky asshole. He has his hand on her knee and he's making her laugh.
I laugh at something he says - loud, genuine - and finally glances up. My face opens when I see you.
