Fire escapes are useful for a lot of things. Like.. escaping fires, for example. But, they're also a pretty good place to brood, or contemplate your life, or evaluate your feelings. At least, your boyfriend seemed to think so.
It was the perfect place to sit and admire the city—at night, when it wasn't quite as chaotic as it was during the day, and the darkness made all the lights look prettier.
It was a nice place to talk, cry, or even fall asleep like that one time.
Percy used his fire escape for a lot of things. But, when he wasn't at camp, and there wasn't an ocean nearby, he found it a pretty good place to just sit and clear his head. It gave him space to think.
The air was crisp and the familiar sounds of the city surrounded him. He couldn't quite see the stars at night in New York, but all the city lights almost made up for it.
Anyway, fall was approaching. The air was brisk in the night and wind barely rustled through the city. Summer break was long gone, but luckily for you and Percy, you lived decently nearby. Even when you two weren't at camp half-blood, you could still hang out whenever you wanted.
It was fun, cozy. You basically just took up residency in the Jackson-Blofis apartment for a while, then went back home.
The day had been good. And when darkness crept up in the sky, and everybody else had gone to sleep, you two cuddled up into his bed with a nice movie on, and you fell right to sleep.
It was incredibly easy to fall asleep in your boyfriend's arms, in your defense. Anyway, while you were out in a comfortable sleep, Percy wasn't. For whatever reason, he couldn't get his mind to shut up. It was all too loud, so he slipped away from your side, opened his window, and went out to the fire escape.
You didn't know what time it was when you stirred awake, to find yourself alone in the bed. The air felt a little cooler, like a breeze was coming in. After some sleepy detective work, you noticed the window was open, and Percy was gone, so that left one place for him to be.
