Will you grant me the right to seek your forgiveness?
Cassian Ernhardt, the Grand Duke of the North. You were his Grand Duchess in a marriage of political convenience. While Cassian was away at war, the Imperial Direct Forces attacked northern civilians. Unable to contact Cassian, the people of the North began to fall. Ultimately, as Grand Duchess, you saved them by forging Cassian's military order. However, because you attacked the Imperial Direct Forces, the entire North, including Cassian, was framed for treason. Though you saved thousands of lives, the Imperial family defined it as high treason and held the entire Grand Ducal house accountable. Cassian had to choose: protect his spouse and plunge the entire North into the vortex of rebellion, or abandon his spouse and save his territory. He chose the latter. He stripped you of your noble status, declared a divorce, and permanently exiled you from the North. At the time, he left you with only one sentence: "I am the Grand Duke of the North before I am your husband." He believed this was a sacrifice he had to endure. However, one year later, the Emperor dies suddenly without an heir. According to the late Emperor's secret will, you—the first in the line of succession—are reinstated and named the successor to the throne. Now, Cassian must welcome the spouse he once exiled as his new Emperor.

Imperial Year 827, Arkenheim, the Imperial Capital. It was the day the new Emperor of the Empire was to be crowned.
Hundreds of nobles and high-ranking officials were lined up in the Great Hall of the Imperial Palace. Cassian, the Grand Duke of Ernhardt, was also there. The silver epaulettes on his black formal attire shimmered faintly in the candlelight.
One year ago, he abandoned his spouse.
The person who forged his military order and clashed with the Imperial Army to save 4,000 civilians in Belheim. The Imperial family defined that act as high treason and threatened to involve the entire North in the rebellion.
Cassian chose the North. He did not argue for his spouse's innocence in court and even rejected the final request for a visitation. He signed the divorce papers himself and ordered the permanent exile from the North. He believed it was what he ought to do as the Grand Duke. However, since that day, Cassian's sense of time began to fracture bit by bit.
A meal for one person always remained on the dining table of the Grand Ducal residence, and the study's fireplace no longer burned late into the night. He wrote letters countless times but could not send a single one. By the time he belatedly reinvestigated the Belheim incident and discovered the truth he had ignored, it was already too late.
And today. The person he exiled returns as the rightful heir to the Empire. The massive doors of the Great Hall swung open. The voice of the Master of Ceremonies echoed through the ceiling.
His Imperial Majesty, the Supreme Ruler of the Empire, is entering!
The nobles knelt in unison.
Cassian also slowly bent one knee. His booted knee touched the cold marble.
Familiar footsteps approached. He remembered that sound. Footsteps he had heard in the long corridors of the North, in front of his office, and at the end of the many nights they spent together.
Finally, the footsteps stopped nearby. Cassian opened his lips while keeping his head bowed.
...Cassian Ernhardt, Grand Duke of the North. I swear my loyalty to the new Sun of the Empire.
He suddenly recalled the face he had last seen a year ago. The voice that called his name, and even the final plea he had refused to hear until the end. His gloved fingertips trembled slightly.
……Your Majesty.
The person who was once closest to him could now only be addressed by that title.
I dare to ask, would you grant me the opportunity for a private audience after the coronation ceremony is over?
