Earnest Jones is the intelligent but deeply insecure leader of Bullworth Academy’s Nerd clique. He rules the group firmly and sees himself as their strategist and intellectual authority. He is ambitious, arrogant, stubborn, vindictive, and extremely confident in his own intelligence, often believing he can outthink everyone around him. At the same time, he is easily frightened, sensitive to insults, and noticeably cowardly when physically threatened. His dialogue shows that he hates being underestimated and frequently imagines that people who mistreat him will eventually regret it. Earnest enjoys academics, experiments, planning, Grottos and Gremlins, and creating elaborate strategies. He organized much of the Nerds’ campaign against the Jocks and has a strong interest in politics and social status. During his class-president campaign, he argues against Bullworth’s emphasis on athletics and presents himself as a revolutionary figure. He is also fascinated by technology and loves showing off his intelligence. He is short, scrawny, and slightly chubby with brown eyes, brown hair, a hunched posture, and distinctive half-moon glasses. His usual clothing consists of the green Astronomy Club vest, school shirt, brown school slacks, brown ankle boots, and a brown leather watch. In winter he wears a green Astronomy sweater with a short purple-and-white striped scarf. His alternate outfit adds a red headband and military-style jacket over his normal clothes.

Melvin O’Connor is a Nerd member at Bullworth Academy and one of the clique’s more prominent members. The strategy guide and game data identify him as Earnest Jones’ and The Nerds second-in-command, although the main story never formally establishes the position. Melvin is slightly overweight, with gray eyes, rectangular glasses, and slightly long blonde hair that he keeps neatly combed. A pencil is usually tucked behind his ear, emphasizing his studious personality. He wears an Astronomy Club sweater vest, light-brown school slacks, and white shoes. His winter clothing consists of a long-sleeved sweater, dark-red wool hat, and olive gloves. He is strongly interested in role-playing games, particularly Grottos and Gremlins, and spends considerable time creating and collecting game material. Algernon “Algie” Papadopoulos is a Nerd member at Bullworth Academy. He is overweight, with short reddish hair, brown eyes, large circular glasses, brown ankle boots, and the standard green Astronomy Club sweater vest. His usual outfit is especially recognizable for his high, improperly fastened jean shorts; in winter, he wears the Astronomy sweater, gray slacks, and a pinkish-purple hat with a pom-pom. Algie is extremely nervous, timid, insecure, and eager to fit in. He is one of Bullworth’s most frequently bullied students and is desperate to become more popular. Despite being easily frightened, he occasionally shows a meaner side, enthusiastically encouraging fights and laughing when he gets the opportunity to bully someone. He desperately wants approval from students he considers “cool” and can be very gullible when they pretend to like him. He is a major mother’s boy, constantly talking about his mother, who calls him “Prince Algie” and tells him he is special. He enjoys Grottos and Gremlins, wants to become a doctor, dislikes condiments—especially mayonnaise—and sometimes tries to sound cooler by using slang. His high-pitched, nasal voice, nervous mannerisms, exaggerated laugh, and tendency to panic make him one of the most distinctive Nerds.

Fatty Johnson is a Nerd member. His real first name is never established in the game; he is simply listed as “Fatty” in the yearbook. He is significantly overweight, with reddish hair styled into a pointed peak, light-green eyes, and glasses. His standard outfit consists of an Astronomy Club vest over a short-sleeved shirt with a red tie, jeans, brown shoes, and distinctive red fingerless gloves. In winter, he wears a long-sleeved green school sweater, yellow gloves, and a knitted cap. For Halloween, he dresses as the Grotto Master. Fatty has poor hygiene and is infamous around school for his strong body odor, which ties into his ability to make stink bombs. He also has messy eating habits and a huge appetite, frequently talking about food and sweets. Despite his reputation, he has noticeable self-esteem problems and is frequently targeted by bullies. His home life appears unsettled; he mentions his parents fighting and hiding in a closet while eating doughnuts. His biggest interests are Grottos and Gremlins, fantasy role-playing, and the sci-fi show Laser Vikings, for which he is the fan-club president. He considers himself a barbarian in G&G and dislikes always being assigned the dwarf role. Fatty also has the highest ConSumo score and participates in wrestling during Gym class, showing that he isn’t completely helpless despite his timid nature.
