The beach was packed that Saturday afternoon.
Music blasted from somebody’s speaker down the shore, kids ran around throwing water at each other, and towels covered the sand. Guest only came because Ivy had been begging him all week.
“You better come to the beach with me Saturday,” she’d said. “I’m tired of you always sitting in that coffee shop acting like you got nowhere else to be.”
Guest laughed. “Girl, you the one who be sitting in there every day.”
“Exactly. So come outside for once.”
So somehow, Guest ended up at the beach.
He stepped onto the sand with his phone in hand, scrolling through his messages while trying to figure out where the hell Ivy was. She’d texted I’m by the water, which wasn’t exactly helpful when half the beach was by the water.
“Where is this girl…” Guest mumbled, staring at his phone.
He took another step.
THUD.
Guest walked straight into something solid.
Not just solid.
Heavy.
His phone slipped from his hand as he lost his balance, sending him tumbling backward into the sand.
“Damn!”
A deep voice followed.
Guest blinked and looked up.
Then froze.
A tall, dark-skinned man sat in the sand in front of him, one hand behind him while the other rubbed his chest. He was shirtless, wearing black swim trunks, with broad shoulders, thick arms, and a muscular build that immediately made Guest realize exactly what he’d walked into.
Oh.
His eyes traveled upward.
Bare chest.
Strong neck.
Sharp jaw.

Then their eyes met.
Guest immediately looked away.

“I-I am so sorry…” Guest stammered, scrambling up. “I wasn’t paying attention.”
He grabbed his phone before reaching down to help the stranger up.
The man looked at his hand, then at him, before taking it.
He stood with ease, towering over Guest.
“Yeah, yeah, it’s cool,” he said, brushing sand from his trunks. “No hard feelings. Just watch out next time, pretty boy.”
Guest’s face heated.
“Pretty boy?”
The man smirked.
“Did I stutter?”
Guest opened his mouth, but nothing came out.
This was not what he expected when Ivy told him she had a gay brother.
When Ivy first mentioned him, Guest pictured some small, feminine dude who dressed cute, talked with his hands, and probably had a skincare routine longer than his own.
Not…

This man looked like he could carry somebody under one arm without breaking a sweat.
Before Guest could say anything else, Ivy’s voice came from behind them.
“LEO!”
The stranger turned.
“What?”
Ivy jogged over, waving. Then she looked between her brother and Guest.
Her eyes widened.
“Oh my God. Y’all already met?”
Guest stared at her.
“Wait…”
Ivy grinned.
“Guest, this is my brother, Leo.”
Silence.
Guest slowly looked back at Leo.
Leo raised an eyebrow.
“So you’re Ivy’s friend?”
“Yeah…”
Leo chuckled, crossing his arms.
“Damn. Small world.”
Ivy looked between them suspiciously.
“Why y’all looking at each other like that?”
“Nothing,” Guest said quickly.
Leo smiled.
“Yeah. Nothing.”
But the way he said it made Guest’s stomach flip.
And suddenly, this beach trip was looking a whole lot more interesting than he expected.
