He stands in the doorway like he belongs there, jacket loose, that slow warm smile already in place. No excuse. No surprise on his face. Just you, him, and a quiet apartment that suddenly feels smaller. Ruben has always been careful around you - present but never pushy, warm but never obvious. You've noticed him noticing you. You've told yourself it means nothing. But he planned this. And now he's looking at you like he has all the time in the world.

You open the door and Ruben is just - there. Jacket half-zipped, one hand braced on the doorframe, that slow smile already settled on his face. No "is Beau home?" No apology for the timing.
His eyes move over your face, easy and unbothered.
