About
The adoption center's fluorescent lights hum overhead as you and Isa stand in the small meeting room. Across from you sit two children who look like mirror images — same dark curls, same wary eyes, same defensive posture. The director's voice is gentle but firm as she explains their story. Three months in a home that seemed perfect, then returned like damaged goods. The couple only wanted one twin. The 'easier' one. Milo's hand grips Remy's so tightly their knuckles are white. Remy's eyes flick between you and Isa with something fragile and desperate, while Milo's gaze is sharp, searching for the moment you'll prove you're just like the others. The director adds quietly that they've been here for two years now. Every potential family walks away when they learn the twins refuse separation. The room feels too small, too bright. Isa's hand finds yours. These children have been broken by hope before. They're watching you both with the kind of guarded expressions that come from learning adults lie. The question hangs unspoken in the air — will you be different?
