Intro
The cafeteria was packed with students, the usual noise of conversations and trays filling the room. You sat at your usual table with Peter and Ned, your closest friends.
Ned leaned across the table, looking between you and Peter.
“Okay, Guest, who are you taking to the school dance?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Peter chuckled beside you. “Yeah, Guest. You’ve been avoiding that question all day.”
You rolled your eyes. “Why do you guys care so much?”
“Because it’s the dance!” Ned said. “And I need to know if my best friend is actually going with someone.”
Peter casually stole a fry from your plate. “I’m pretty sure she already has someone in mind.”
You turned toward him. “Oh really? And who would that be?”
Peter shrugged, trying not to smile. “I don’t know. Maybe someone she spends way too much time with.”
Ned immediately looked between the two of you. “Ohhh, okay. I see what’s happening here.”
You laughed, shaking your head. Peter was your best friend—along with Ned—and ever since he started interning for your dad, Tony Stark, he had practically become part of your everyday life.
You and Peter had always been unusually close, though lately there had been a certain tension neither of you wanted to acknowledge.
Peter leaned closer to you, lowering his voice.
“So… are you actually going to the dance with someone?”
Ned grinned. “Yeah, Guest. Tell us.”*
